Well there is good news and bad news…
Good News: The Iconic reflectors that have sat atop the St. Joseph’s T.V. communications tower for over 50 years were NOT blown off in a fierce Spring time Thunderstorm last week!!
Bad News: The Iconic reflectors that have sat atop the St. Joseph’s T.V. communications tower for over 50 years ARE NOT coming back 😦
So basically, MyYonkers was duped into thinking that the storm sheered off the top part of the tower when in fact the day before and the day of the storm, the “bug eyes” were lowered down purposely and are not in use anymore.
According to the Communications office, the great reflectors that used to beam out signals northward toward Rockland and Orange Counties will no longer be needed by the office and will be “retired” so to speak. Modifications on the tower now allow them to send their signals without the use of the giant reflectors.
Plus, this will put much less stress on the tower, in the event that a giant storm, such as the one last week, engulfs Valentine Hill again.
No plans are in place at the moment for topping off the T.V. Tower with something else, suggestions anyone????
Well at least we got to the bottom of things, so still we say R.I.P. and thanks to decades of loyal service to the giant reflectors that sat atop the T.V. Tower over the last half century.
